Human Resource Management

The ABE Human Resource Management (HRM) introduces learners to academic disciplines that underlie the effective management of HR and explores the theory and practice of HRM activities. HRM activities include manpower planning, recruitment, training and development of individuals and teams. It is divided into four levels viz Certificate, Diploma I, Diploma II and Advanced Diploma.

The course meets employers’ needs and offers progression to higher education in addition to enhanced HRM skills, marketability in the organization and preparation for further courses of study. It is targets employees, managers and those who aspire to enter the HRM function.

Course Structure

This course is divided into three levels: Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma. The Diploma level has two parts Part 1 and Part 2.

HRM Certificate

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, but applicants should demonstrate competence in the English Language.

Course Content

Four compulsory subjects:

  1. IB – Introduction to Business
  2. IBC – Introduction to Business Communication
  3. MP – Managing People
  4. PA – Personnel Administration

HRM Diploma Part I

Entry Requirements

  1. HRM Certificate.
  2. Two GCE ‘A’ Levels plus four GCSE passes at Grade A, B, or C, two of which must be EnglishLanguage and Mathematics.
  3. Mature students who are 21 years of age and have been in appropriate employment for at least two years. A reference letter from employers in this respect will be required.

Course Content

Four compulsory subjects:

  1. ECON – Economic Principles and Their Application to Business
  2. OB – Organisational Behaviour
  3. HRM – Human Resource Management
  4. HRD – Human Resource Development

HRM Diploma Level I

Four compulsory subjects:

  1. ER – Employment Relations
  2. PPR – People Planning & Resourcing
  3. PIS – Personnel Information Systems
  4. HRMA – Human Resource Management in Action

Plus one from the following options:

  1. PBL – Principles of Business Law
  2. QM – Quantitative Methods

HRM Advanced Diploma

Entry Requirements

  1. HRM Diploma Level II
  2. A degree awarded by a recognised University.

  1. CS – Corporate Strategy
  2. MO – Managing in Organisations
  3. SHRM – Strategic Human Resource Management
  4. PMR – Performance Management and Reward
  5. OCD – Organisational Change and Development
